Christmas in a cup

10/6/12
Sorry my friends! I have not updated in a while, been a bit busy. If I ever go that long without an update you all have to yell at me. I’ve had to do so much studying in the last few days I haven’t had a chance to really sit and write up a blog post.

So Tuesday I was supposed to have an interview for a job I applied for. I show up at 3:00 (or if I’m feeling British 15:00) at the cafĂ© that we were to meet at. I waited for an hour and the guy never showed up. I called the office phone and the secretary didn’t know where he was. After I left I sent an email and he never responded. If you already filled the position, that’s fine, just let me know!  Like I wasted time that I could have been in the lab studying, it’s just rude.

Wednesday I went to a part time job fair and applied for a few positions. Hopefully I will hear back from one of them soon!

Thursday was my day for dissection. I absolutely hate dissection. I know that it is a big deal for us to have the opportunity to work with cadavers, and it is cool seeing the actual muscle that we are studying. But I just can’t get over the fact that I am cutting into a recently deceased person. I mean this women had a family, kids, she was a mother, or sister, or aunt. I can’t distance myself from that. Seeing her face and hands is the worst. After dissection a bunch of us went to Interval (the union bar) for drinks. We ended up getting dinner there as well, It was great getting to hang out with everyone after the trauma that is dissection for me.

Today after class a few of us went to Bloo 88 (pronounced blue 88) for pizza. I ate way to much but I was absolutely starving and the pizza was really good. Another cultural difference I’ve seen in England is that when you’re at a restaurant it’s perfectly acceptable to stay at your table long after you’ve eaten. In the US after you’re done it’s usually expected that you get up and leave. But we hung out at Bloo for a while after we were done eating. After Bloo we went to the Red Deer (aka the archaeologist pub) for drinks. We met up with a bunch of other students there. I had my first glass of mulled wine, which is pretty much Christmas in a cup.

Tomorrow I’m finally going and getting a cell phone plan! Yay! Since I didn’t have any money on my UK bank card I couldn’t get a phone plan (they only accept UK accounts), but now that my loan money arrived I can go get one. So I can finally call people! And text! I’ll be a real person again.
